My Approach to Helping

I believe your feelings, thinking, beliefs and perceptions can shift. You can grow and make the changes you want in your life. From experiences working with people just like you, I have had the privilege of witnessing changes in unwanted behaviours, relationships, family dynamics, communication skills and many other life struggles. Whether you are working individually or as a couple, you can experience invaluable and exciting life changes.

Your psychotherapeutic work can also help facilitate relief from your unwanted physical and emotional stress, anxiety and fears. Finding relief, greater self-awareness, understanding others, finding your voice and truth and expressing your thoughts and feelings authentically, are areas where I can support, help and guide you.

While Incorporating effective therapeutic interventions, I am non-judgemental, client-centered and focused on your emotional, cognitive and physical, present moment reality.

Feel supported, validated and encouraged as you increase your emotional, cognitive, physical and spiritual self-awareness. Discovering and utilizing your inner strengths and your mind-body understanding and intelligence can increase your confidence and self-esteem.

Practicing psychotherapy is easy to be passionate about. A respectful and compassionate therapeutic relationship that supports the kind of contact with you that is truly meaningful and life-changing is exciting.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

I have a personal and professional interest in adoption. Being both a reunited adoptee, and also an LDA (Late Discovery Adoptee) has, given me an appreciation for the concerns and struggles that may arise for those in any way connected to this social/familial/political/genealogical experience.

I believe these experiences have afforded me the opportunity to deepen my understand and empathy around abandonment, rejection, identity, sense of place and belonging, disconnection, betrayal and all the emotional responses that may spring from them [i.e. anger, loss, grief, sadness, numbing-out]. I realize that coming to terms with these so-called, 'negative' feelings allowed me to more fully see and appreciate the things I am grateful for. My capacity for choosing love and happiness has expanded.

Having integrated this experience in my own life has only added to my endless fascination regarding human relationships and how we navigate this weird and wonderful reality we all share.

Theoretical Influences that Guide My Work

How do you KNOW how you feel? Your feelings reside in your body. A thrill of excitement running through you may feel like joy, your clenched jaw may indicate anger, a heaviness in your chest (heavy-heart) may equate with sadness or grief. Your head/thinking process interprets and labels these physical sensations. Your body-mind or heart-head understanding is an integral influence and part of my psychotherapy practice.

Being a Gestalt therapist, a Psychotherapeutic Bodymind therapist and a Clinical Hypnotherapist (C.Hyp), I am influenced and guided by mindful, client-centered, humanistic and holistic approaches. The better the relationship you have with your conscious and unconscious the greater, safer, more direct and rapid, personal growth and desired change unfolds.
