My Approach to Helping
I help my clients find a path forward when they have lost a sense of meaning or purpose. I work with a variety of issues including chronic depression, trauma recovery, and addiction. Many people come to me feeling hollow, disconnected, and not sure how things could getter. But there is hope in seeking help. Together we can deconstruct the patterns and cycles that keep you stuck and work to make your life one you can cherish rather than simply endure. I know how to guide you through and keep you accountable to the process of growth.
My style is direct, no-nonsense, with a sense of humor. I pull on rich background of training that includes study in modalities including CBT, ACT, existential therapy, AEDP, IFS, and more. I work with clients to identify their areas of concern and then alternate between zooming in to change patterns using practical strategies, and pulling back to see them in larger existential narratives that help you know yourself and your values.
I like clients who are their own people–we might get along if you're rebellious, nerdy, or like to question social norms.
If we work on issues regarding substance use, I use a harm reduction model that sees engagement with substance on a continuum from healthy and acceptable use to chronic abuse. I will not lecture you or expect abstinence to be the only goal.
I am trained in EMDR therapy for trauma and negative core beliefs. I am LGBTQIA friendly, open-minded, and affirming of diverse lifestyles and identities.
