My Approach to Helping
Hi, my name is Heather Croteau and I am an Licensed Clinical Social Worker I specialize in Anxiety, Depression, Life Transitions, and LGBTQ. I focus on individualized and collaborative treatment with teens, adults, and families. I utilize interpersonal counseling, solution focused counseling, and cognitive behavioral therapy.
I am comfortable working with clients of any age and background. I am also comfortable working with clients that are struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, and life transitions. I feel as though I set a comfortable and safe space for clients to work with me. I allow the client time to talk and will reflect on what they are saying to ensure that I am understanding them. I meet them where they are at and do my best to put them at ease.
I struggled as an adolescent with being gay and also having a great deal of anger as well as anxiety about this. I also lost my mom in early adulthood. I found that therapy truly helped me process these things and made me want to give back to others.
I try to meet my clients where they are at and set small realistic goals that they create.
My first session is all about getting to know each other, what they are expecting, what has worked for them, and what has not worked.
