My Approach to Helping
Childhood neglect, abuse, and dysfunction set us up for so many hard things as adults. We develop problematic attachment styles, have terrible self-esteem, don't trust our own gut instincts, and are always waiting for the other shoe to drop. Do friends and partners see you as needy, anxious, or controlling? Is it hard to feel secure with the people who matter to you the most? If you want to be less reactive with your loved ones and handle your family of origin better, I’m your person because I want to help you connect better with yourself so you can start connecting better with others.
More Info About My Practice
I'm a clinical social worker associate, so I don't just see you as a bunch of symptoms or broken parts. I see you as a whole person who's been through some stuff. I've been through it, too. And I’ve got the personal and professional experience to help you recover. When we’re done, you’ll see yourself in a gentler way and have more peaceful, connected relationships.
I use mindfulness and somatic techniques with an emphasis on self-compassion. In other words, I’ll teach you how to give yourself a break. I use reparenting practices to help you learn how to self-soothe (your sweethearts will love this!). And, for the really tough stuff, we can use eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) to reduce the sting of your past traumas.
Had a Negative Therapy Experience?
UGH! It's the worst - you finally get brave enough to seek help and end up worse than you started. I absolutely LOVE being someone's "second chance" therapist. I can help you heal from a bad past therapy experience. I'm ethical, capable, and kind. I won't rush you or hold you back. I won't shame you or pathologize you. I'll meet you right where you're at and do everything I can to help you feel safe and valued.
