How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist
Hi, I'm Hiba!
I'm a registered psychotherapist, life learner, and social justice activist. At heart, I'm a global citizen, so I enjoy serving clients in Canada, the US, and the Middle East. At present, I call Niagara home.
I was born and raised in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) to immigrant parents from Aden, Yemen. I spent the first eighteen years of my life in the U.A.E.
I grew up feeling that I neither belonged to my place of birth nor to the country of my family of origin. I immigrated to Canada and began building my life as I had envisioned it.
For as long as I can remember, I had an insatiable curiosity about mental health. I wanted to know what exactly makes people happy, fulfilled, and whole. After many years of roomies and ramen, I graduated from Brock-U with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. I later went on to pursue a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counselling and training in sex therapy.
I was also passionate about a whole bunch of things that seemed unconnected. Like: Yin Yoga, interior design, traveling, dancing, and entrepreneurship, to name a few.
After working in the non-profit and corporate setting for the last 18 years. I've finally realized that my multi-passionate nature wasn't a liability but a strength. I decided to give up the security of a 9-5 and opened my own Multicultural Therapy Practice.
From then on, I went on to pursue a bigger dream of creating a self-care center, now called Under The Oaks Self Care Center.
If you've read this far, I appreciate you being on this journey with me.
