My Approach to Helping
I started practicing in 2014 when I decided to go back to school and get a degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. I was also serving at our church as a leader in the Divorce Care Ministry for over 10 years and then started the group, Single and Parenting. My approach is to listen to each client using the 'mirroring' technique to help them facilitate feeling heard and safe in a space they can freely express their emotions and thoughts without judgment. The main modalities I use are Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) and Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) to assist clients with faulty thinking patterns that limit their perspective and successful resolutions of presenting issues. The needs and goals of my clients at times are trauma-focused, misunderstanding Panic Attacks, and anxiety and depression. Their goals are reachable and time specific with higher success rates.
Our sessions will be focused on Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) and Solution Focused (SFT) therapy modalities. The listening style used will be reflective listening using Imago therapy which is 'mirror' listening. I am licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) who is also a certified hypnotherapist who enjoys helping clients through their journey to finding hope, direction, healing, or recovery. I hold a Ph.D., WD, and am board certified in Sexual Addiction from the IICS (International Institute of Clinical Sexology), Master of Science in Marriage & Family Therapy from Nova S.E. University, and Addiction Certification from ATTI (Addictions Therapy Training Institute).
I work with a wide population using Cognitive Behavioral and Solution Focused Therapies. I work with teenagers and enjoy working with couples struggling in their marriage as well as premarital counseling. I have worked with a vast number of elderly clients and families guiding them through the challenges of understanding Alzheimer’s and the effects it has on the family and caregivers. I began my career working in the pharmaceutical industry before embarking on a career in real estate for the past 20 years. I heeded my calling of helping others 10 plus years ago by working in divorce recovery helping to hurt people in their journey towards restoration and to help single parents overcome challenges that can sometimes feel hectic and chaotic.
These opportunities along with my real-world experiences have enabled me to be compassionate and sensitive to the challenges and situations faced by my clientele. I am able to quickly understand and empathize with her clients and together forge a plan to reach their goals. I am fluent in English and Spanish. Successful care and progress look like the client is becoming aware of the situation they presented with and moving from a stuck perspective to a goal-oriented outcome.
Our first session is an intake for information gathering (for couples therapy) giving each person space to voice their perspective on the presenting issues. Then for couples therapy, each client will have their own individual session followed up by the 4th session coming back together to formulate a treatment plan. Individual sessions begin with information gathering and are followed by additional sessions to formulate a treatment plan.
