My Approach to Helping
Hello There! :), I am Jaclene Newell (Jac-lean), as the pronunciation name. I am licensed as a licensed professional counselor with a specialization in forensics here in Wisconsin. My great compassion is to bring healing to those who are experiencing life's difficulties and guide my clients through the obstacles life often presents to us.
I know that no single approach is the right one for every individual so I have been trained in a range of modalities including traditional talk therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, different Relationship therapy techniques, Brainspotting techniques, Trauma-focused therapy, music and art therapies, among many others. I love to take an eclectic approach because I want to find the one thing that works for you and I am always learning so that I can find that one thing to help you the best!
I help many clients including adolescents, couples, adults, and families, to find healthy perceptions of themselves, strengthen their relationships, to become their most radiant selves as they work through their trauma, depression, anxiety, and stressors. I can treat anything from Depression, Anxiety, Borderline personality disorder, Bi-Polar, those who suffer from Trauma, and also worked with those who have Schizophrenia, and Autism; I have dabbled a bit in porn addiction and substance use although am not certified in that work. I love doing relationship counseling as well as helping couples become the best partners they can be.
I love to create a nice soothing safe place for my clients. My ultimate goal is for you to just feel my hope for you, my heart, peace, kindness, and my compassion; knowing that you are a beautiful and important human being in this life. In working with me I want you to feel a sense of calm and peace so that you can feel just like you are at the edge of a tranquil lake with the warm beautiful sun rays beating on you. You and I will be a team in your care because I believe even though my knowledge can assist, you also know yourself the best.
"Why do people suffer in life? I have always thought about this question as I was growing up. I would see people crying, or people getting hurt, and my heart just wanted to reach out to them. I did not want them to be hurt and I did not want to see them cry. I wanted them to be dancing in circles, jumping in mud puddles, and to be free. I always remember being little and just saying, you know I want to live so that people see more of their own beauty and greatness through me. I want to help others live in a way that kindness, truth, and love define them. I wanted my words of hope and love to be spoken to a hurting world.
I have always had this drive and passion to defend and protect humans from pain, suffering, and evil; to guide and direct them when human beings feel lost. I always want people to know they are not alone and that every hurt that has been done to us and every hurt that we have done can be forgiven so that we can be radiant and live the best lives for ourselves. Those are the things that drive me to do this work and attracted me to this career because I see the world as it should be; not as it is."
I believe in collaboratively creating goals with my clients and I focus on making them measurable and achievable. We usually will start with identifying your hopes and dreams; Then we will choose a starting theme to focus on; and will narrow that theme into specific goals; the final step is to create an action plan and we will work on the skills to complete the action plan until you are satisfied with the results.
The first session is often different than other sessions. The first session is really for you to get to know me and for me to get to know you. This will help me to gain ideas on how to proceed. I will ask you about your childhood, your education, your relationships (family life, romantic life, and friends), your current living situation, your career, and what would make you happier in life. As well as about the presenting circumstances that brought you to therapy. Depending on your issue and therapy goals, we may come up with a possible timeline in this session on how long it may take for things to feel better for you in life; although, that can be very individualized, depending on the circumstances and the work that is put in. Mostly, though, it is just about you and I getting to know each other. If you have questions, I always want you to ask.
