My Approach to Helping
My passion is working with adults across the lifespan, from various professional, and cultural backgrounds. I extend a relational, integrative approach to treatment using dialectical (DBT) and cognitive behavioral (CBT) techniques to assist you in uncovering self-defeating thoughts, feelings, and behaviors interfering with present-day living. I listen with full empathy and compassion, actively and with full participation. I communicate by asking questions, not telling clients answers. Rather I assist in helping clients find their own truth and point them into self-awareness and self-discovery so they are empowered to live a life of purpose and meaning.
Fascination with the science of human behavior is what drew me into therapy. Personal experiences with mental health issues of my own are what drew me into becoming a therapist. I have a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. Successful progress for my clients means freedom from suffering in their heads. It means understanding past trauma and letting it go, fully surrendering through acceptance of what IS. Not identifying with the critical voice in the head, and living only in the NOW. I conduct an assessment to determine areas clients need to work on in order to heal. I ask questions and listen actively, then we talk about clients' treatment goals and outcomes they want to see happen in their lives.
