My Approach to Helping

James is a licensed professional clinical counselor whose approach to therapy is client centered, intentional, and supportive of what makes you, you. His approach leans into curiosity, utilizes a variety of strategies for support, and is developed in line with the values and goals of those seeking support. James’ therapeutic orientation aligns with the stance that the way we view life and interact with the world around us, was developed through our unique experiences across our lifespan. James utilizes Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) to help understand our thoughts and feelings and the ways in which our mind, heart, and body communicate internally and in relation to our environment. Utilizing EMDR strategies, James can help target past traumas, increase awareness of our strengths and connections, and increase feelings of safety and confidence. James recognizes that the methods of providing treatment vary person to person and implements interventions in a manner that is supportive of any who come for support. James has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults tailoring his approach to meet each client where they are. Recognizing the importance of play and attachment, James has been trained in utilizing EMDR through various modalities including sand tray with a focus on child-parent attachment. Believing in the importance of self-care, James finds time to spend with his family, play catch with his dog, get outside to play racquetball and hike, learn music on the guitar, and perfect dialing in his espressos for morning coffee.
