My Approach to Helping
The reason some people experience anxiety and others don't is based on our window of tolerance - the threshold in which we're able to cope with uncomfortable situations and stimuli.
making a mistake -- a social gathering -- reading the news -- you name it...
For folks with a narrow window of tolerance, anything can feel big and hard to manage. This is where spiraling thoughts come in, waking up in the middle of the night, questions of am I good enough, & the struggle to make the right decision.
We can't stop things from happening. What we CAN do, and what I love to do, is help people learn to increase their window.
My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
Therapy is where we ease loneliness and deepen connection with ourselves and others. Where we begin to feel safe and ready to make real and lasting change in our lives. Where we gain new understanding & healing that guides us out of the place we're in, to the place we long to be.
Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist
The client-therapist relationship is one of the most important predictors of therapeutic outcomes. We don't know if we're a match until we connect. We spend our first sessions with me supporting you to comfortably explore your needs and our connection - making sure I have the skills to support you, and we have the connection that makes us a great match.
How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist
Adoption is a part of my family's story. It is an honor for me to work with families touched by adoption. I support parents experiencing infertility & considering adoption, adopting a baby or child, working with attachment & family dynamics, building cultural competency, and navigating the ups and downs of parenting their adopted child.
My View on the Nature of 'Disorders'
I'm a strengths-based and needs based therapist. I help clients to use their own values and gifts to navigate meeting their needs and understanding the things that make them feel most stuck.
