My Approach to Helping
I have been working as a clinical social worker and therapist for over 40 years. I approach working with clients by thinking about how I would want to be treated and what I would want from a therapist. I believe that healing CAN happen and that it can be done in a gentle way. The two models that I primarily use, EMDR and the Trauma Resiliency Model are very client centered. The premise of both models is that we each have the intrinsic ability to heal. We just need the right guide. My focus is on teaching clients practical skills that can help them day to day in managing their life as well as treating the underlying issues that are causing their present distress. I work together with the client to develop the individualized plan of care that works the best for them.

How Psychotherapy Can Help
We all have challenges in our lives at different times. However, sometimes those challenges can feel overwhelming when one is trying to deal with them on their own and it can be helpful to have a therapist to work with to resolve those issues. Psychotherapy can help to resolve hurts and problems so that one can live their life more fully in the present. There are practical life tools that can be learned to help the person feel better and more fully enjoy their life and their relationships.
Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed
Some people may initially feel that going to see a therapist means that they are weak or something is wrong with them. Actually, my perspective is that it takes a person of strength and courage to know when something is troubling them and to seek out help. There are now treatment approaches that can help people to heal and transform their lives. We are learning more and more about how stress can impact a person's mind and body and we now have new effective models for helping people to take steps to get their lives back on track.
