My Approach to Helping

People who have worked with me say, "You're called a shrink, but our work together makes me feel expanded, clearer and empowered. I am now able to think differently about myself, my life and my relationships and, as a result, I can see my part in what's happened in my past and I have the chance to transform how I act and live in the future."

I've been so excited and so gratified over my 25 years of practice to see how many people I've been able to help profoundly. People who work with me say they feel heard and understood, often for the first time. Even more importantly, our work together allows you to have access to your own wisdom - the source of real answers - and then to act in accordance with your authentic values. As a result, you can not only find usable solutions to long-standing problems, but also experience greater self-confidence (where you used to experience frequent self-doubt). I see each of us humans as whole and complete but many who enter my office for the first time are feeling very different from that. I hold on to that point of view as I help you to see "behind your back," where useful clues exist, and to show you how the meaning you are attributing to events impacts your experience of living.

By expanding the ways you think, you can worry less and become more effective at dissolving your unwanted beliefs (or mis-beliefs), your undesirable habits and your pattern of getting upset repeatedly over the same things. I aim to get you to think and then feel and act unstuck from what you've created. The bottom line: you will function better and feel more productive and happier. This approach will allow you to reclaim elements of your health, vitality and even your youthfulness.

Significantly, I've seen these shifts become permanent, time and again, as individuals, couples and families discover they are capable of transforming relationships and long-standing destructive patterns. The latest research validates that this type of therapy results not only in feeling better and functioning better, but in literal changes to the brain. Your life can actually become easier, making decisions can become less burdensome and yes, even your dreams can turn into probabilities.

More Info About My Practice

I've developed a family coaching practice where I help seniors and those who are caring for them, or as I call it doing POP (Parenting Our Parents) derive the practical and emotional support to turn this portion of life into a time of healing, intergenerational learning, joy and love. Those who get involved doing POP learn to parent themselves and are thereafter forever positively changed.

I recommend that people interested in POP look at our website, www.ParentingOurParents.org, and see our offerings, including my memoir self-help book, "Parenting Our Parents: Transforming the Challenge into a Journey of Love," and our POP Coaching Training Institute and my services as a Master POP Family Coach, the latest specialty of life coaching.

I also enjoy the opportunity to lead support groups as I have done all the years of my practice.

Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed

I see those who go to therapy as optimists who believe life can be better for them. Rather than viewing people who seek help as weak or flawed, I see them as whole and complete; however, we are often unaware of how to experience more joy without some help from a qualified neutral experienced professional. Those of you strong enough to take on the challenge of engaging in therapy with me will, hopefully, develop a greater ability to be responsible to create the life you want and refine the skills needed for true happiness: increased gratitude, forgiveness and savoring the moments of life.

Groups I Work With

My clients are those seeking to become happier in their lives and to function better - it is my great joy to help them discover how to live more meaningful and healthy lives and how to access and utilize their best selves to make their contribution to those around them.

I have a long-standing specialty and reputation of successfully working with seniors and those who love them that I call Parenting Our Parents (POP), many of those come to work with me are parenting their aging parents or are those very seniors. Inter-generational families are increasingly coming in for guidance, especially since COVID-19. Many learn about me from reading my memoir self-help book, "Parenting Our Parents: Transforming the Challenge into a Journey of Love" and from the other offerings at our well-loved website, www.ParentingOurParents.org. I also offer a certified POP Coach Training program and am a Master Certified POP Family Coach, for those more interested in that than in doing family therapy.
