My Approach to Helping
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas. I work via telehealth with adults and adolescents throughout the state. My specialties are trauma, anxiety, and depression. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is the main approach I use to help my clients work through the issues that are troubling them, so they can begin to feel better as quickly as possible.
My approach to counseling and therapy is based on the needs of each individual client. Most often, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy because both approaches allow the client and me to form a partnership to achieve the desired outcome.
Most of my clients are adults or teens who have experienced some type of trauma that has led to depression, anxiety, or post-traumatic stress. By helping clients uncover and understand where their distressing feelings originated and by teaching specific coping strategies, I am able to guide clients to a place of confidence and calm, knowing they are able to handle life stressors in a healthy, positive way.
The environment I strive to set in my therapy sessions is calm, easy-going, and non-judgmental. Feeling comfortable and relaxed while working through stressful difficulties is critical to the therapeutic process.
After teaching in public high schools for many years, it became apparent to me that I could reach and help a lot more people through counseling. I have seen firsthand what a difference therapy can make in the lives of those who are hurting or who want to improve their lives. Helping people through hard times and watching them become happier and more fulfilled is the best way for me to serve others.
Setting goals in therapy is a shared responsibility for both the client and the therapist. The time I spend with each client is the client’s time to accomplish what is most important to him or her. This often begins with conversations and activities that will allow us to get comfortable with one another, while building a foundation of trust and respect.
Our first session will consist of talking and asking and answering questions of each other. We will discover what brings you to therapy and how I can be of help. We will also get an idea of which direction we need to take in order to accomplish your goals.
