My Approach to Helping

I believe that therapy is a process that everyone should try at some point in their life and that you and I both should play our own part in a collaborative process. Sometimes the changes that occur in the course of our relationship may feel uncomfortable. It requires many years of developing a way of thinking, feeling, and behaving and will require some time to change those patterns. With time, patience, and hard work, these changes in self-image, insight, and behavior will become more routine and you will begin to see the tremendous benefits. Based on your individual needs, we will develop a unique plan that involves different methods of therapy. I am comfortable with individuals from many different cultures and backgrounds and consider my own personal strengths to be accepting, genuine, and respectful. I am honored to be an advisor and contributor to the 5th Edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, which is the foremost diagnostic tool utilized by all mental health professionals around the world. In addition, I enjoy researching alternative methods in psychotherapy.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

What I love about psychotherapy is the relationship. I love the therapeutic bond that I have the privilege of developing with my clients. I learn just as much from my clients as they learn from me. Some of these relationships have developed over just a few months and some many years, but they will be with me for a lifetime.

Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed

What a lot of people don't realize about therapy is that sometimes a good place to start is when things are going relatively well. We don't have to be in a state of crisis to seek insight into ourselves. There is this old fashioned idea that therapy is only for those with serious mental health issues or diagnosis. Therapy can be helpful in learning so much more about ourselves. It can help us in becoming our best selves, by gaining insight into where we have been and where we are going. The therapeutic relationship can also be a safe and validating experience that encourages us to go to places in our life we never considered possible.
