Mental Health in Richmond

In December 2016, the Richmond City Sheriff’s Office received a grant to assist inmates with mental health issues. The agency had already made drug addiction recovery a mission in its jails. However, providing the necessary care for inmates with mental health diagnoses had been a challenge due to limited funding.

The Richmond City Sheriff’s Office is currently using the grant to hire trained staff to work exclusively with inmates who have mental health concerns. Care is provided during incarceration and after release.
