My Approach to Helping

Hello! My name is Jen and I’m a licensed marriage and family therapist. I’ve been in practice for 5 years. I have experience working BIPOC, queer, and neurodiverse individuals and couples. I provide services virtually in Illinois and am based in Chicago. I help clients work through PTSD, anxiety, executive dysfunction, relationship struggles, family dynamics, self esteem, and kink and poly relationship issues. I like using warmth, compassion, curiosity, humor, and a lot of hand gestures to connect with my clients and establish a safe, trusting therapeutic relationship.

I like using warmth, compassion, curiosity, humor, and a lot of hand gestures to connect with my clients and establish a safe, trusting therapeutic relationship.

I work from a trauma-informed stance and use elements of narrative therapy, emotionally focused therapy, internal family systems, DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy), and Gottman to guide clients as they understand themselves, develop coping skills, heal, and improve relationships with others and themselves.

More Info About My Practice

I am a mixed-race, queer, AuDHD, and disabled clinician. It's important to me that my clients feel seen and feel comfortable to be their most authentic selves in therapy. It's important to me to show up authentically, so my clients know they can do the same. I use self-disclosure to relate to my clients, because sometimes it's hard to be vulnerable with someone when you don't know them. I encourage clients to ask me questions about myself so they can determine if I will be a good therapeutic fit. I often check in with my clients about the "vibes" (aka the therapeutic relationship, progress of treatment) to make sure they have the space to name elements that may need to change. I work virtually and have availability from 1pm-7pm Monday- Friday.

If this sounds like a good fit for you, reach out!

Take care,
Jen
