My Approach to Helping
People of all ages are managing multiple life stresses each day and these can take their toll. Children and adolescents are still growing, let alone the social, emotional, behavioral, and learning tasks they must navigate. Parents are juggling family, work, finances, and their own interpersonal relationships, We could all use someone to simply listen to us. Once we have shared our frustrations, disappointments, conflicts and the like, then we can begin to take in the support that a therapist can offer. I work with people of all ages but have extensive experience in working with childhood issues, parenting, and school-based issues. Other concerns I can help you with include anxiety, depression, interpersonal communication, and life adjustments such as divorce. I am committed to tailoring my work to your needs and offer support from various schools of thought including cognitive-behavior therapy, psychodynamic perspectives, applied behavior analysis, solution-focused work and family systems theory. No two people are alike and therefore no two approaches will be the same. We will work together in a comfortable partnership to develop and work toward goals and growth.
More Info About My Practice
I was formerly a school psychologist for ten years, yet knew I would eventually support people of all ages in the private sector. In private practice, I can allow for the real time that people need to come in, become comfortable, and ready themselves to learn and grow for which the public sector was less equipped. My goal has been to create a very comfortable home office that can meet the needs of both adults and children. Accordingly, adults and parents will feel at ease in a simple and neutral office space, while children will feel "safe" and engaged in a very child-centered play therapy room. For those at a distance, I offer an encrypted, HIPAA Compliant platform that is compatible with laptop cameras and phones/tablets. We do our best "work" where we are most comfortable. I also recognize that people may require support in other ways, such as home visits to observe children's behaviors or school advocacy as well. I am ready to meet you where you're at and will tailor my approach accordingly. I am currently accepting new client consultations via phone, free-of-charge.
Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed
The stigma about mental health is an unfortunate one, yet is on its way out. Mindfulness and awareness of one's thoughts, feelings, and behavior are part of the "battle" so to speak. I am always so pleased when a person seeks support, because it means you are potentially ready to look more closely at yourself. What matters most is that you are walking through the door. We all have "issues," be they large or small. What sets some apart is that they will hold the mirror up to look at themselves, while others continue to look away. Are you ready to take a look? I will be there right beside you.
