My Approach to Helping
Welcome. Here is a little something about me. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Georgia and Florida with 13 years of clinical experience, currently working with clients statewide via telehealth. I believe in treating everyone with genuine care, absolute respect, acceptance, and compassion. Taking the first step in seeking healing and a more fulfilling, happier life takes courage. I am here to support you in that process. You are the expert in your life and the voice of your story. I am committed to making sure our interactions and treatment plan meet your unique and specific needs. I have extensive experience working with trauma-related disorders; CBT and Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Play and Narrative Therapy, The Mindful Solution and Meditation, Crisis Intervention, and TraumaCommunity Resiliency Model (CTRM)®. Over the past thirty years I've walked with people on their spiritual journeys and have helped them explore “Where is the Divine in all this?” (spoiler alert! Always Inside you). We will explore how love and forgiveness can help bring about healing. I am also very comfortable praying with you if you ask."
I have extensive experience working with adolescents, young adults, and individuals who have experienced sexual assaultabuse, have been (or may still be) trafficked or exploited. I help clients who have trauma, complex trauma, and post-traumatic stress. I am comfortable working with a variety of mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, grief, and loss, which frequently intersect with the profound impact of trauma. My communication style is calm, engaging, and personable. I have clear professional boundaries but I also use a lot of humor and I’m very real with my clients. I want my clients to feel listened to as well as feel comfortable talking with me about anything. There will be no judgment here!
I’ve worked with young people experiencing homelessness for almost 30 years. I learned early on that there were a few things that helped spin their world upside down – the loss of a parent, grief, sexual assault or interpersonal violence, their ‘coming out’ to their families, or mental health issues. Their dealing with their homelessness was secondary to their healing from their past. I wanted to be one of the people in their lives that saw them – really saw them. But I also wanted to be someone who had some skills to help them.
Where to Begin: What you can expect from our first session together. We’ll first check in on how you’ve been feeling recently. Make sure you’re safe and all. Maybe explore what made this time THE time to reach out. I’ll ask you to give me everything you think I will need to fully understand what is going on in your life. The first sessions are about motivation and engagement. As I mentioned above, you are the expert in your life and the voice of your story. I am committed to making sure our interactions and treatment plan grow out of your story and meet your unique and specific needs.
