My Approach to Helping

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Alabama with over 10 years experience working as a counselor, mentor, and life coach. I am licensed in Delaware as an LMHC and Georgia as an LPC. I provide in-office counseling with clients in the Birmingham, AL area and telehealth services for clients in Alabama, Delaware, and Georgia.

I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, stress, self-esteem issues, relationship issues, parenting problems, anger issues, Bipolar, career challenges, behavioral issues, suicidal ideations, ADHD/ADD, and other mental health disorders. I have worked with individuals that have experienced physical and emotional trauma, abuse, as well as victims and perpetrators of domestic violence. I have worked with juvenile and adult offenders both while incarcerated and also upon release.

I love being a counselor and enjoy helping others overcome the hurdles that present themselves in our lives. I have always been an extrovert and people person and utilize this throughout my practice. My counseling style is warm, empathetic, understanding and interactive. I believe in treating everyone with respect, dignity, sensitivity, and compassion. I utilize a non-judgmental and courtesy approach to assist in building a strong therapeutic alliance with clients. This assists with trust building and success during the counseling process.

All sessions and goals will be tailored to the needs of each individual. My therapeutic approach combines cognitive-behavioral, motivational interviewing, rational emotive behavioral, humanistic, reality-based and solution-focused counseling. I believe that to make a successful change it takes more than just changes in your thoughts but also changes in your behaviors. This can be done by utilizing a holistic approach to change. The mind, body, and spirit all work in unison to create a healthy outcome.

"A vision without a plan is just a dream. A plan without a vision is just drudgery. But a vision with a plan can change the world." -Old Proverb.

Life has a way of throwing curve balls and hurdles. Throughout my life, there were many times that I needed help to overcome the stressors and issues that were present. I was blessed to be able to receive the help that was needed. I try to pay this forward and be this same help to others. It takes courage to step out of your comfort zone to seek the help and support needed to overcome the issues and hurdles that may be present in your life. Allow me to help you overcome these trials and tribulations through encouragement, empowerment, and support.
