My Approach to Helping

We are like snowflakes:each made of the same material, but we are each with unique footprints as human beings. I believe we learn habits of behavior very young age designed to cope functionally in a dysfunctional environment for our individuality. We Often get stuck in old habitual thinking and behavior which isn't necessarily working currently. Change is hard. Change comes only out of self acceptance, self awareness and self kindness. This is the premise of my approach. I guide my clients in their understanding of themselves using acceptance, awareness and kindness. Our sessions involve interaction. I expect to build a relationship with the person I am working with which fosters trust and offers a templet for what I am teaching them.

More Info About My Practice

I have a percentage of my practice in which I accept some insurance. I have a sliding scale fee (to be discussed in person). I work with individuals, groups couples and families. I also practice telehealth during these trying times.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I am a published author on the topic of relationships. I have published a book called Mother Daughter Duets which deals with the topic of the relationship between mothers and daughters as they grow older. I have been in practice since 1978 and have worked extensively with couples and families in a large variety of issues. I use a mindful approach. I work with couples to help them understand why they are in the relationship they are in, how to make that relationship more fulfilling, how to build the love and keep the sparks. I work with individuals regarding family of origin issues, self awareness and self acceptance. I will guide you by teaching you tools to deal with the anxieties of life. Staying in the present allows the person to be more intimate with their own experiences. Intimacy is knowing who you are and being able to share it with others . My Role as a Therapist

Think of it this way,if therapy is school, "you" are the subject and "life" is the workshop, then the times of challenge in life is the "exam". We all get challenged by life circumstances. Sometimes we need a helping hand. My role as a therapist is one of a teacher and a guide. People usually come to therapy when they are having trouble negotiating some of life's challenges. My job is to provide a supportive, non judgmental enviornment for you to be able to look at yourself in. I listen and give feedback to guide you to a place (inside yourself) where you can become more self aware. I teach self acceptance and self love. I am by nature a very nurturing person. I use that to model this self acceptance by providing unconditional acceptance for you. I give homework and expect that when you are ready, you will practice what you are learning. I foster independence in the psychotherapeutic process. We do what we do because that is what we have always done. By learning new thoughts that are based in self acceptance, we can be open to change.
