My Approach to Helping
My goal as a therapist is to help you build the skills you need to thrive without my support. I hope you never feel lost or confused about why we are doing something in therapy - we will always discuss the reasoning behind each approach, why I believe it will be helpful, and whether you believe it is appropriate for you. I will challenge you when necessary, but I will always prioritize supporting your ability to trust yourself.
More Info About My Practice
I am idealistic and believe that a better world is possible, especially when we move beyond hopelessness and isolation to harness our collective power against systems of exploitation and oppression. I also recognize the need to survive in the current world which drives me to actively advocate for social justice, while staying practical about what is achievable and best for each of you in your own lives.
Much of my professional experience has been working with Arab, North African, West African, South Asian, and Muslim diaspora communities. Although I come from a Euro-American family, these communities are integral to my networks. I approach my career with mindfulness and gratitude toward those who taught me Arabic and French, including my teachers, friends, and clients. My goal is to honor their teachings and use them to do good. I also have deep family roots in both rural New York and the New York metropolitan area and am committed to supporting the underserved in these communities.
