My Approach to Helping
My name is Jessie Smith, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of North Carolina. I have experience working with adults, adults with SPMI, adolescents, and families seeking support to overcome trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief, parenting issues, anger, self-esteem, codependency, and other challenges that arise in life. I earned a Bachelor's and Master of Social Work from The University of North Carolina at Pembroke. I incorporate cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and psychotherapy techniques to work with my clients through their struggles, offering them comfort and support to help them overcome.
I utilize a collaborative and holistic approach to helping individuals overcome their challenges because they're experts in their life. My life experiences in the military make me relatable to a variety of issues faced by my clients. I am passionate about assisting clients with learning the skills needed to reach their goals and be successful in life as they define it. I believe in creating a safe, judgment-free environment filled with compassion and empathy, where you are free to openly discuss your experiences and become the best version of yourself. I also believe that your experiences and challenges are unique to you, and so too, should be the therapeutic approach that I use. We all fall on hard times and face difficult challenges; however, we do not have to do it alone.

I am very casual and although we will have a professional therapeutic relationship, I encourage my clients to speak direct and frank to me, as they would anyone in their personal lives.
My transition from the military back into civilian life and seeing mental health struggles that not only our veterans endure, but how they impact our society as a whole inspired me to use my own experiences with mental health to help others.
Determining what the client wants and needs from their treatment, and jointly making a plan together to achieve their short-term and long-term goals.
My clients should expect a very casual but professional approach to their intake session so that we can develop a treatment plan together without feeling they are being interrogated.
