My Approach to Helping

My name is Jewels Willing and I am the owner of Healing River Therapy, LLC. I specialize in providing treatment to adults who are navigating recovery and healing from parental narcissistic abuse or emotionally immature parenting. This includes emotional neglect, chronic invalidation of feelings, the “Mother Wound,” a lack of truly being seen, heard and nurtured or simply experiencing a difficult relationship with a parent (among so much more). Current struggles may include: anxiety, insecure attachment in relationships, challenges setting healthy boundaries with others, people-pleasing tendencies, self-doubt or deep rooted difficulty speaking up to advocate for self.
I have been trained in attachment trauma and parental narcissistic abuse recovery. A treatment I provide is Internal Family Systems therapy for individuals interested in creating a secure, inner attachment with themselves. I am a warm, gentle therapist and create a safe space to heal the wounded, inner child. I am deeply committed to this work.
To everyone seeking support, please know this: Everyone deserves to have a voice and your voice is important. Your feelings matter and you are not alone :)

More Info About My Practice

I have completed Level 1 and Level 2 certificate training in Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy with Dr. Sue Johnson and Internal Family Systems training with Dr. Frank Anderson. I have recently completed a three-month certificate training program, "Treating Adults of Emotionally Immature Parents: How to Reclaim Their Lives from the Toxic Legacy of Controlling, Rejecting or Self-Involved Parents," with Dr. Lindsay Gibson.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

For generations, many parents have responded to their child's natural human emotions with anger, hostility, rejection, ridicule, abandonment and sometimes violence. Children are taught feelings are wrong, shameful and they learn to suppress them for survival. This suppression and rejection of the child for who they are, can contribute to anxiety, depression and low self-worth as the child grows.
