My Approach to Helping

Parenting feels harder than it should. Sometimes you feel like your kid is the one in charge. Calm, connected parenting is within your reach.

You are at your wits’ end. You hate it, but you snap and yell when the bedtime dawdle feels like a hostage crisis for the fifth time this week. You worry that you are doing and saying all of the things your parents did - all the things you swore you would never repeat when you became a parent.

When my clients first come in they too often walk on eggshells to keep a rare, delicate truce with their kid. They don’t recognize the tense, joyless parent they’ve become. They feel like they could be such good parents if their kids would only let them.

Why are things so hard when their play-group friends make it look so easy?

Imagine being able to glide through the daily routines so you can really connect with your kids the way you want to. Imagine your kids doing what you ask and feeling proud to make you proud of them. A relaxed and authentic family life is not out of your reach.

Call or email me to set up a free 15-minute consultation. You don’t have to stay stuck. You don’t have to be in this alone. We can find your way.

More Info About My Practice

When you come to see me, we will start with some questions about your strengths and areas where you are hoping for change. It is important for you to feel comfortable with me because our relationship as therapist and client is a key factor in making that change happen. I will want to know how life is going now, what kind of supports you have, and what you've tried so far. This will lay a foundation upon which we build practices that are manageable but have a big impact as you bring them home to your family.

When working with kids, I will schedule an intake session with just parents to get background, context, and to determine the most helpful way to move forward.

Groups I Work With

Parents and Co-Parents: I work with parents and co-parents (partnered or separated) who are not able to show up as the parents they want to be. Through our work together, you can gain a better and more functional understanding of your role as a parent and your relationship with your child so that you can give them what they truly need. We work to increase your calm so that you feel more resilient, flexible, and cared for yourself, so you can help your kids gain these qualities (and get easier to live with in the process). Call or email me to get started.

Children: I work with children who are experiencing big emotions and expressing them in ways that get them in trouble. These big emotions are uncomfortable and hard to talk about. They confuse kids and parents alike. We play to get more clarity and to find a safe way to release these emotions. Parents are an important part of the process, making room for healthy tolerance, understanding, and expression of emotions with loving support. Call or email me to get started.

Perinatal People: I work with pregnant and brand new moms and parents who are feeling hijacked by their new role and need support to feel like themselves, to soothe themselves, and sometimes to step in to a parents role for themselves so they can actually find joy in this time. You are not broken if you are not cherishing the newborn stage! It's hard to go through this feeling lonely. We can work together to make it better. Take a nap, then call or email me to get started.
