My Approach to Helping

In my personal style, therapy is a warm, supportive, and inquisitive process where we explore what isn't working in your life or relationships. Together we will build awareness, make connections and discover patterns that interfere with your happiness and cause you dissatisfaction. When we create space between emotion and action, we will expand your awareness and a world of new choices will emerge for you.

Gestalt is a powerful method of therapy that has the ability to deepen the therapeutic work in a way other philosophies can't. The benefit is that clients can see dramatic change in a shorter time than with other methods. The focus and medium for change in Gestalt Therapy is the embodied experience of the work. We tune in to our physical experience during the session to receive information that our intellectual faculties don't have access to. That information changes our perception and understanding of the problem opening new avenues for change.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

From the gestalt perspective you are healthy and capable, not broken or damaged. You have creatively developed strategies for coping with what life presented in order to get your needs met as much as possible. You come to therapy today because those strategies and habits don't work for you at this age and stage in your life. The purpose of therapy is to undo obsolete habits that stand between you and greater happiness.
