My Approach to Helping
Do you feel overwhelmed by stress, anxiety or depression? Is negative thinking or poor self-esteem getting you down? Maybe you are just feeling stuck and you would like some help figuring out how to best move forward in your life. My approach is client-centered, future-oriented, and pragmatic. I partner with you to identify your needs and pursue your goals with action and optimism!
I provide brief intervention with lasting results using Accelerated Resolution Therapy, an evidence-based therapy that combines the power of bilateral eye-movements and working memory activation. A.R.T. has been shown to provide relief from distress, depression, trauma and anxiety. It also works to strengthen positive habits and optimize your performance (sports, job, public speaking, etc.) Some advantages of A.R.T. compared to other therapy modalities is that is helps you create change more quickly, without having to talk about all the details like you would in traditional talk therapy. Clients leave A.R.T. sessions feeling calm and relaxed with a more positive mindset.
In addition to counseling, I have extensive training and experience working with dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning disorders. When people struggle in school due to a learning difficulty, it can create emotional side effects such as feeling "stupid" or less competent, poor self-esteem, a fear of getting in trouble or being embarrassed in front of others. A.R.T. is a great intervention to help individuals resolve some of theses negative thoughts and feelings that so often follow us through childhood into adulthood.
For clients who are interested in learning new strategies, I use Cognitive Behavior Therapy strategies and tools, psycho-education and self-care habits to help clients learn how to best help themselves.
