My Approach to Helping
Hi there, I'm Jillian! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in New York City and working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work individually with adults and specialize in anxiety, depression, and relationship issues, using a variety of approaches including Strengths-Based Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help my clients make progress and acquire tools to feel better.
I use the approach or approaches to therapy that best suit the needs of my clients. I most frequently use Strengths-Based Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as both modalities help me and my clients develop a shared understanding of their reality and work towards reaching new milestones in their journey from "stuck"-ness to a place of greater freedom and control.
I have found that my method and manner of working with clients is a good fit for adults who are dealing with the challenges of life transitions, relationship difficulties, and uncertainty around major decisions. These challenges can often take the form of depression, anxiety, and social withdrawal. I work with my clients to help them have a greater appreciation of who they are, navigate areas of stress with more confidence, and simply feel better.
I am authentically warm, supportive, and respectful. I am a non-judgmental and attuned listener and a reflective and insightful communicator. I want my clients to feel engaged in our sessions and comfortable talking about anything with me.
Whether as a peer counselor, a GED certificate instructor, or a relied-upon friend, I have always found helping people reach their most meaningful goals rewarding. Having someone place enough trust in me to be at their most vulnerable is a privilege and responsibility I do not take lightly.
During a first session with me, you can expect our conversation to mainly focus on what is going on that has brought you to therapy and what you hope it will help you accomplish. I will ask questions with the purpose of gaining a better understanding of your dilemmas and answer any questions you may have. We can talk about goals if they are clear to you. Your level of comfort and sense of our connection will guide the direction and depth of our conversation. When the session has almost ended, I will ask you if you would like to continue to work with me, and if so, we can determine a schedule.
