My Approach to Helping
Hello, I am Jocelyn Evans-Shaw. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who works with adults and adolescents to assist them in achieving a sense of health and wholeness. I work with clients addressing issues including, but not limited to, trauma, relationship stressors, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, grief, and life transitions such as marriage, divorce, and career change. I utilize a variety of therapeutic interventions and techniques, and my primary philosophy of psychotherapy is an attachment-based approach emphasizing increased resilience and self-awareness. I also use an integrative approach to address mental, physical, and emotional distress resulting from traumatic experiences. I use an integrative approach, including CBT, DBT, person-centered approach. Trauma, relationship stressors, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, grief, and life transitions such as marriage, divorce, and career change. I create a safe environment for my clients where they can feel welcome. Never judge the client. Build rapport with the client. Work at their own pace.
I was attracted to becoming a therapist from an early age. I saw how mental health problems continue to increase without adequate help. What drives me to be a counselor is a strong desire to help others, giving hope when people feel hopeless. Starting Slow. Getting to know my client beyond their symptoms. discuss specific goals for therapy. The first session will be to get to know about what brings the client to counseling and background information.
