My Approach to Helping
My job as a therapist is to create a safe place where change can occur. The most important thing that I offer to my clients is a genuine interest in your unique story, and an acceptance of who you are as a person. I know that each event – positive and negative- has led up to your experience of life today. I also realize that your experience is not the same as any other person. The work that we do together will be focused on your goals- whether that is a reduction in symptoms or movement toward your optimal potential.
Prior to becoming a therapist, I was a business executive- so I understand the pressures and strain associated with building a career and building a life. I understand performance pressures and anxiety, and employ evidence based treatments like EMDR and neurofeedback to promote optimal functioning. I've lived the stress that comes with being a caregiver for the aging parent .
When I am not serving clients, I teach communication and leadership classes at the college level. With a MA in Communication and Leadership Studies from Gonzaga University, and a MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, I bring unique experience and tools into our work together. At the same time, as a person-centered therapist, I realize you are the best expert on your life and expect that we will both take an active role in our work together.
I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC, NC) Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC, VA and SC). I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), and a trained EMDR clinician. I work alongside my clients using evidence based tools and techniques to alleviate suffering, and to create post traumatic growth.
