My Approach to Helping
I work with men and women and families who are inclined to speak of their lives just as they live it and not necessarily from the position of a diagnosis. You might say I work with the crazy parts of sane people. Sometimes what we name things changes what they are and sometimes a diagnosis is useful and necessary, but in either case, across all styles of therapy, experience rather than information heals. In therapy, it is the relationship--the capacity of the relationship to transform, that does the healing.

How Psychotherapy Can Help
I began a private practice because I felt that what people want from therapy is not being delivered. Being well-adjusted to an odd culture is not a measure of health. More and more, the real risk for a person is how to live deeply no matter how it looks and feels. Dreams, intuition, passion and the uncanny are the signs we can follow to find our way. This perspective is in conflict with the medical model of mental health that treats problems of living as medical diseases. In relationship, we will discover what may be the source of your suffering as well its meaning and then make decisions about what you want.
