My Approach to Helping
I am a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) working with clients via telehealth throughout the state of NY. I work with teenagers and adults, individuals, couples, and families specializing in Anxiety, Depression, Life Changes, and Relationship difficulties. I use behavioral interventions, therapies of paradox, and solution-focused supportive processing to help clients make progress toward their goals.
My therapeutic orientation is influenced by the needs of each client I work with. I frequently use a combination of cognitive processing therapy, behavioral therapy, and mindfulness strategies. These modalities used together help me and the client develop an understanding of their current story, perceptions of needs and desires for change, and to intentionally determine the most productive way toward a new story of selfliferelationship.
My approach has been most helpful for teenagers, adults, and couples committed to making changes but struggling to come out of old patterns, define the new path, and embrace the necessary discomfort of change. Anxiety, Depression, and Relational Stress are often indicators we need to change parts of ourselves andor our environment. I work to help clients understand themselves more clearly, and build the skills and courage to attend to their changes.
My communication style is active, compassionate, and encouraging. My clients feel comfortable talking about everything knowing their victories will be celebrated and their intimacies regarded with respectful care.
I became a therapist because I wanted to understand the human condition and the desire for community, purpose, and meaning. I've always engaged with curiosity toward others and have an inclination toward personal growth which has been helpful throughout my career. It is incredibly rewarding work to help people challenge themselves to engage more fully in their lives and relationships.
I often find people come to therapy when they feel stagnation and dissatisfaction in some aspect of life. They know something needs to change and that they need intentional support to make these changes. I work with clients to develop a clear vision of their goals, address their challenges, and grow the courage and discipline to go after a more successful version of themselves. Goals of therapy often change as clients develop a deeper, more profound understanding of themselves and the therapeutic relationship.
Our first session together is aimed at understanding your needs in therapy, how you've been feeling recently, and ifhow this is impacting your outside life. I am active in therapy and willing to jump into the deeper aspects of what has brought you to the session as I find clients often feel a pressure to emotionally unburden themselves and these first sessions can provide that release as we begin to see the work needed.
