My Approach to Helping
I am Joyce Caldwell a licensed professional counselor in Texas with 7 years of professional work experience. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, motivation, self-esteem, confidence, depression, and coping with life changes. My approach to therapy is I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. I am here to support and empower you in that journey.
The approach to providing therapy included the following theoretical approaches; Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. The most common theoretical approach I use is cognitive behavior therapy (CBT).
I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, motivation, self-esteem, confidence, depression, and coping with life changes. I am only accepting female clients.
My tone is calm, patient, and professional. What it feels like to work with me is having a conversation with someone whom you can trust and that will equip you with the skills to navigate life's challenges.
The reason, I became a therapist is because my dad was a Vietnam Veteran who suffered from PTSD and I wanted to have the skills to help him. The second reason for becoming a therapist was to help others gain the skills they need to navigate life challenges. What drives me to do this work is that it is rewarding to see others reach their goals and gain the skills needed to cope with mental illness. Mental illness is a condition that you gain the skills to recognize, finding coping mechanisms to help you navigate it and move past the symptoms but it does not define who you are!
How I approach goal setting with a client is through a collaborative conversation that is person-centered based on what area in their lives they have identified as needing assistance on. The process is usually:
Brainstorm actionable objectives. ...
Identify realistic and specific goals. ...
Break down goals into smaller steps. ...
Identify possible obstacles. ...
Schedule a timeframe.
During the first session, a client can be expected to hear a short talk on what the sessions will look like, the modality that can be used, discuss HIPPA when the therapist is ethically liable to break HIPPA, and consent to a treatment intake assessment. Additionally, your first session will probably involve your therapist asking you a lot of questions about yourself, how you cope, and your symptom and what is their expectation about therapy, and what they want to get out of therapy.
