My Approach to Helping
A very warm welcome to you! My name is Julia Dee and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist with over 23 years of therapeutic experience and education in the mental health field. I specialize in providing therapy for women struggling with trauma, depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, relationship stress, family and parenting issues, workplace stress, and general feelings of overwhelm and burnout. By using cognitive-behavioral, trauma-informed, psychodynamic, and strength-based approaches in therapy together, you will learn skills and strategies to help you feel empowered, cope better in your daily life, and heal from past emotional pain.
I use cognitive-behavioral, trauma-informed, psychodynamic, and strength-based approaches in my therapeutic work with clients. I specialize in providing therapy for women struggling with trauma, depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, relationship stress, family and parenting issues, workplace stress, and general feelings of overwhelm and burnout.
I will help you feel safe, comfortable, and confident in your therapy sessions. I sometimes use humor (when appropriate) and find this can be helpful to help balance out some of the heaviness that can be experienced during therapy. When you are ready, at a pace that is comfortable for you, we will begin healing the trauma and pain from the past that holds you back from living the life you deserve.
I knew early in my adult life that I wanted to help others with their mental and emotional health, and have followed that path ever since. I find my work very fulfilling and meaningful, and love meeting new people who are beginning or continuing on a personal healing journey.
We will go over your therapy goal in the first couple of sessions so that you feel clear about what we are working on, and use a measurement-based model to track your progress. By using cognitive-behavioral, trauma-informed, psychodynamic, and strength-based approaches in therapy together, we will first identify, and then explore how your thoughts and feelings affect you internally, and then discover how these thoughts and feelings are expressed in your behaviors and interactions with others. You will learn to identify your emotional triggers and discover where those triggers first developed earlier in your life. You will learn about the body's threat response system and how it impacts your reactions to others. You will explore how and where your body often stores unhealed pain, and learn how to use self-soothingemotional regulation skills, and effective coping strategies to start helping you feel relief and empowerment.
Your first appointment will be a 60-minute session to go over your mental health history, identify your therapy goals, and create a treatment plan to help get you feeling better. You will have an opportunity to ask any questions and share any concerns you may have getting started with therapy.
