My Approach to Helping

Life can be extremely stressful at times, particularly for those who have experienced trauma, oppression, or marginalization. These stressors can interfere with our ability to accomplish desired goals and lessen our overall well-being or happiness, especially if we do not have the proper skills to work through them. It can seem overwhelming to manage these life stressors, along with the challenging thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that often accompany them. However, there is a path forward. I will help guide and empower you to overcome the challenges life throws at you. I graduated from James Madison University in 2004 with a Master's Degree and an Educational Specialist degree in Community Counseling. I have obtained certification as a National Board Certified Counselor and licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor of Mental Health. I primarily work with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, and LGBTQIA+ and/or DEI-related issues (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion). I have worked in a variety of settings, including community mental health clinics, schools, and in the community. I provide telehealth therapy for adults, using a combination of person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, and trauma-focused interventions to help them learn skills to better manage their thoughts, feelings, and behavior, and develop strategies to deal with and move past the stressors and traumatic events they have experienced in their lives. By learning these practical skills and strategies, you will be empowered to make positive changes in your life. I also believe change starts with developing a safe, trusting, and collaborative relationship with my clients. I prioritize listening to and communicating understanding of clients' concerns, and having a healthy dialogue in which there is a free exchange of ideas. Together, we will find a way to navigate through the challenges that may have previously stood in your way, accomplish your goals, and improve the quality of your life. You can connect with me and request an appointment.
