My Approach to Helping
I am a licensed marriage and family therapist. I enjoy working with couples but also work with individuals. I believe in the strength of the family to help each other.
I love solution-focused therapy. I believe each person has the answers they're looking for to solve problems. I am here to help you discover those answers. You are your own expert. I can help identify solutions that you know will work and implement them.
I have worked with clients that have depression, schizophrenia, and bipolar for many years. I also enjoy working with couples and families. Teenagers are special to me as well because they face special challenges. I believe in the strength of the family to help loved ones and also enjoy working with family members to know what everyone can do to help make every member of the family successful.
My sessions are client focused. You are the expert in your own life. My goal is to listen and find the answers that you already have and help you recognize and implement those. I am looking for strengths that you already have and help you expand and utilize those strengths.
I was a teacher for 20 years. I worked with all kinds of children and families. I noticed that families needed help with family dynamics and parenting. I became interested in wanting to help which led me to be a marriage and family therapist. Today, I enjoy working with families, couples, individuals, and teenagers.
I like to begin with small steps toward goal setting. Big change starts with small changes. Once you see small steps create positive change, then bigger changes will come once success is experienced one step at a time.
In the first session, I like to listen to why you have entered therapy, what you have tried already, and what you expect to happen with our time together. From there we will quickly try and establish small steps to try and elicit some change, which will lead to more change and success.
