My Approach to Helping
We are home to a team of psychotherapists and social workers who help those feeling stuck in all kinds of mental health, emotional and relationship challenges overcome their challenges, align with their goals and values, and live a more intentional and fulfilling life. Together, we will explore your concerns, discuss your goals, explore how you can influence change and supply you with the tools and resources to do so. We will collaboratively develop a treatment plan that suits your needs and preferences. We offer sessions in-person, by video or telephone.
We use several therapeutic approaches including Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye-Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Gestalt, Narrative, Solution-Focused & Emotion-Focused Therapy & Gottman Method, among many others.

In your sessions, you can expect to feel comfortable openly talking about your intimate concerns without judgement. We do not believe in a one-size-fits all approach, and therefore as we get to know you and your concerns, we will collaboratively discuss what treatments may be most effective and best tailored to your individual needs, personality, and comfort (for example, EMDR, CBT, couple therapy, sex therapy, communication training, mindfulness techniques, referral to other specialists), and learn about resources that can further support your needs.
How Psychotherapy Can Help
Psychotherapy, or talk therapy, is a way to help people reduce, manage and cope with emotional and psychological disturbances that impact their well-being. Psychotherapy is a collaborative process that requires both the patient and therapist to be actively involved in the treatment. Together, a therapist and client explore the client's thinking, relationships and life circumstances in order to better understand how the client may bring about positive changes that will enhance their quality of life. Registered psychotherapists and Registered Social Workers are accountable to the College or Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), respectively, for the quality of care they provide and for their professional conduct. Individuals who are registered with CRPO and OCSWSSW are able to use the title ?Registered Psychotherapist? and "Registered Social Worker", thus, when you seek the services of a Registered Psychotherapist or Registered Social Worker, you can expect to receive high quality care.
On the Fence About Going to Therapy?
When contemplating service costs, it might be helpful to ask yourself what it might cost not to take the next step in caring for your mental health and close relationships. If you were having a problem with your car, you could try to fix it on your own, but it would cost you in precious time, emotional energy and unnecessary frustration. The same principle applies to your mental, emotional, and relational health.
The Duration and Frequency of Therapy
The short answer is that it really depends! When dealing with complex, long-lasting issues, treatment may take longer. When the issue you have been working on has been resolved, and you no longer need therapy then treatment can end there or you can continue with supportive counseling as needed. You can think about going to therapy like going to the gym, except instead of building physical muscles, you are building mental muscles that will help you to become stronger, healthier and more flexible. We may need to work on motivation, and exploring and finding your "why" before we get momentum going. You may be asking, does that mean I have to go to keep going to the "mental gym" (i.e., therapy) for the rest of my life to keep up results? Absolutely not! We do not want you to stay in therapy forever. We will work together on supplying the right tools, perspectives and mindsets that you will then apply in every day life and practice, making this habit. And if things get tough again, and you need new strategies to adapt to your life circumstances, you can always come back. You are also more than welcome to access therapy as a way of maintaining your mental health with ongoing, but perhaps less frequent sessions.
