My Approach to Helping
Therapy is scary. "I don't need the help or how is some young girl going to understand my problems?"
These are statements I have heard many times and even thought myself. It is nerve-wracking to imagine sharing your secrets with a stranger. I truly understand that. But you might be here because you are ready to get the help you need and deserve.
The first step in creating meaningful change is to acknowledge that you want something different and that you might be stumped as how to make that happen. I want to help you identify the patterns in your life that perpetuate the cycle you sometimes find your self in. I want to help you discover your authentic self and live your life the way you\'ve always wanted to. It\'s time to get into some action!
I work with a variety of issues including but not limited to anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, trauma, and self-harm behaviors, but I specialize in addiction. I have extensive knowledge of the 12-step process and have worked with individuals struggling with spirituality or higher power. I also work with families of addicts who have suffered just as much and often greater than the addict themselves. I enjoy working with all age groups including 65+, but my passion is working with young adults.
My therapeutic approach is collaborative. I am trained in Gestalt therapy which is helpful in learning to identify emotions and patterns of behavior that lie at the root of many problems. I work from an inclusive and multicultural perspective and I tailor treatment to fit each individual. I am also LGBTQ+ affirming.
