My Approach to Helping
Hello, I am Dr. Kelly Chaney! I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor who is passionate about helping clients find their passion in life and supporting them in removing blocks that are keeping them from living their best life. My approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I focus on helping my clients identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts and to learn practical self-help strategies. My client experience is currently working with the BIPOC community along with children, adolescents and families. Within my counseling sessions, clients get to drop the pretensions. Clients are able to come into a space that is safe and allows for them to be their authentic selves. This allows for clients to be vulnerable to be able to explore fears and tough feelings.
My journey to becoming a therapist started with my passion for wanting to work with children and adolescents. This propelled me into becoming a school counselor. I was a school counselor for 8 years and then moved to supporting other school counselors on how to go from good to great. I then was met with the opportunity to teach at Northwestern University to support up-and-coming therapists. As a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, I am driven by the support that I am able to give my clients to help them through some of the most difficult times in their lives. I want them to know that every storm runs out of rain.
I work collaboratively with clients to identify treatment priories and create goals that move clients from good to great; one step, one day at a time. During the first session, client will experience a warm and inviting space. This includes us getting to know each other and getting an idea of how future sessions will proceed.
