My Approach to Helping

In these uncertain times, I offer a safe place for clients to explore their fears and concerns related to Covid-19. I provide Telehealth services as a way of supporting those who are struggling to adjust to this new way of life. Further, I work with doctors, nurses and health care personnel who are adjusting to changes not only in their home and personal life, but also with the changing standards of healthcare.

My compassionate approach to therapy allows clients to find comfort in an honest therapeutic relationship, in order to achieve their personal goals for healing. I work to create a non-judgmental and supportive environment that promotes an individual's personal strengths and innate ability to resolve his or her own life struggles. I am particularly interested in the dynamics of families and the impact they have on an individual's relationships and schemas. My intention is to gain an understanding of clients' patterns of behaviors and use my training and intuition to guide treatment and establish therapeutic goals.

My interest in nutrition influences my understanding of mental health, as I recognize the importance of physical health and its effects on one's thoughts and emotions. I have studied the gut-brain connection extensively and believe that achieving balance in one's microbiome (or "gut bacteria") can lead to tremendous improvements in overall emotional and mental wellness. It is not uncommon for clients with "treatment resistant" depression and anxiety to begin to experience symptom relief when taking this approach. I work with my clients to help educate them on the gut-brain connection, and direct them to resources that can help guide them on their path to healing.

Additionally, I am formally trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and use my knowledge of DBT to provide practical life skills to my clients in the areas of mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. This type of therapy helps people to navigate the often messy world of emotions, and normalize the emotional conflicts that arise in everyday life. My intention in my work is to help clients to build insight into their patterns of behavior, heal their physical bodies, and provide them with DBT skills that will improve their ability to navigate life's challenges. I invite you to call me directly to see how I may be able to help you to reach your own personal goals.
