My Approach to Helping
My name is Keshanda Garland. Please feel free to call me Kesha. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. and a Virginia Native. I have over 15 years of experience working with clients who have mental health issues.
It is my job to make therapy sessions feel less intimidating. I accomplish this by being friendly and easy to talk to while striving to give you a feeling of control. Being open and honest will be important in therapy, so my goal is to create an environment that feels realistic. I am always open to questions and feedback. I am a trauma-informed and strengths-based counselor. I utilize cognitive-behavioral techniques, focusing on my clients' self-concept, goals, and resilience. I support personal responsibility as a modality for change.
I enjoy working with adults and adolescents, and my specialty lies in working with clients with anxiety disorders, panic attacks, depression, stress and relationship issues, and trauma-related disorders. I am dedicated to helping her clients foster growth and healing through a collaborative therapeutic relationship.
My goal is to create a place where you can be yourself, open, and honest. My goal is to create a judgmental zone. It has been described by my clients and others that I am easygoing, caring, compassionate, open-minded, professional, and "down to earth."
To me, Therapy is exploring alternatives. I wanted to create an opportunity to identify and address what holds us back from reaching our fullest potential.
I approach goal setting by listening to my client's goals and needs, and I provide assistance with helping my client to develop their own therapeutic goals. Counseling requires an active effort on your part. In order to be most successful, you will have to work on things outside of sessions that are discussed in sessions.
The client should expect to feel heard and supportive during the first session. During the intake, I will obtain background information on what brings you into therapy. The intake is also designed for you to ask me any questions. The goal is for us to get to know one another better.
