My Approach to Helping
Kirsten Norr brings a unique blend of patience, compassion, and humbled curiosity to her counseling practice, shaped by her life experiences and deep commitment to helping others. Rooted in contemplative practices, she draws from existential and behavioral modalities, while also incorporating holistic approaches tailored to each client’s needs. Kirsten’s goal is to make therapy an accessible and transformative tool for navigating life's complex challenges and transitions. Her grounding presence is influenced by her love of Buddhism, while her New York upbringing adds humor and pragmatic introspection to her approach.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Kirsten’s journey into counseling was shaped by her career in television and documentary work, which took her around the world. During this time, she taught English at a Buddhist monastery in Nepal, where her interest in Buddhist philosophy deepened. This experience catalyzed her return to clinical mental health counseling, where she now provides support to individuals on their emotional growth and well-being.
Kirsten holds a Master of Arts in Contemplative Psychotherapy and Buddhist Psychology from Naropa University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of San Diego. She is also a Certified Meditation Instructor in Shamatha-Vipashyana Meditation. Kirsten has extensive experience working with women, particularly in areas of self-compassion, empowerment, and boundary-setting. She is passionate about supporting couples, offering guidance to strengthen connections and navigate conflicts. Her approach fosters deep reflection, personal growth, and lasting transformation.
