My Approach to Helping
Laura J. Solomon, LCSW-R, Although I practice an Eclectic approach, I have found that with certain modalities, clients experience improvement within a relatively short period of time. I have also found that clients fair better when they set their own goals as opposed to following the goals of a therapist.
My most common theoretical approaches I use are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Strength Based Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Psychodynamic Therapy.
I primarily work with individuals who would be appropriate in an outpatient clinical setting. Clients who are able to be open-minded and are interested in shifting their vision, appear to experience the most growth during our therapeutic relationship.
Although I consider what is the most comfortable environment while working with clients, my sessions generally include the processing of challenges and exploring solutions, a great deal of empathy and a sense of humor. I often see individuals who have unrealistic expectations of themselves which can create barriers to change. I believe that “better is better.”
