Mental Health in Greenwich

Opioid abuse is a growing concern in the town of Greenwich. In 2014, officers from the Greenwich Police Department responded to six medical emergencies resulting from the use of heroin. In 2017, there were 17 opioid overdoses in the town, five of which were fatal.

Although heroin use has increased in Greenwich, most of the town’s overdose cases involve the use of prescription drugs. To help tackle this problem, a drop-box for prescription medication was established at the Greenwich police station. The drop-box allows for the proper disposal of unused medications. As of October 2017, the department had already collected 30 pounds of unused pills.
