My Approach to Helping
I believe therapy should empower individuals to help them take control and enhance their lives into happy, healthy and successful ones. However, each person has individual struggles and challenges so what this looks like varies from person to person. Providing a collaborative, holistic approach to the treatment for me includes an examination of many different life factors that contribute to emotional well-being.
I have a strong cognitive behavioral background. Cognitive behavioral therapy is based on the idea that making changes in ones thoughts and behaviors can positively affect how you feel. This treatment modality has been shown to be very effective in treating trauma, anxiety, and depression among other emotional difficulties. Within this framework I may also include work in mindfulness, exposure, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, play therapy, and other possible techniques.
If you would like to positively change your life I love to help.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I specialize in the treatment of anxiety disorders (Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Panic, Generalized Anxiety, Social Anxiety, etc.). I am especially well trained in the treatment of childhood and adult traumas (rape, domestic violence, sexual abuse, physical assault, witnessing a violent crime etc.). I have successfully treated adult and child victims of trauma for over a decade. Being able to help an individual take the daily re-experiencing of the trauma they have experienced and turn it into a bad memory they can leave in the past is a very rewarding experience for me.
Children who have experienced trauma and major life transitions (divorce, adoption, death of a caretaker etc.) is another area in which I specialize. This work has given me a good deal of experience successfully helping families of children who have emotional and behavioral difficulties. Parenting is one of the most difficult jobs to do even in good circumstances. Guiding children through difficult times can often be a challenging experience even for the best of parents. Having the support and guidance of a good therapist through these times can be invaluable to the healing and adjustment of children.
