My Approach to Helping
I believe that no one is broken. The only thing that is wrong is what we've been taught to think and believe about ourselves which stops us from being our true selves. Therefore, my goal is to empower individuals.
Since I am a therapist and a writer, I frame each individual as the main character in his or her life. As the hero or heroine, you are called to face adversity, overcome anxiety, transform your life, and find happiness. With Individual or Couple Counseling, I help you become aware of yourself as the main character. Together, we identify the script handed down by your caregivers and work toward altering the script, changing relationships, and creating a story that serves your highest good to achieve inner peace.
Having grown up in a household with domestic violence, I have been committed to personal and spiritual growth. My personal stories and beliefs are contained in my Amazon bestselling books: "The Roadmap Home: Your GPS to Inner Peace" and "Power Tools for Men: A Blueprint for Healthy Masculinity."
More Info About My Practice
I provide in-person and online sessions. During the past 40 years, I have worked both in Australia and America, as a therapist, writer, and educator. I was Director of the Family Therapy Program at the Marriage and Family Centre in Sydney, Australia, and later worked with the Family Institute at Northwestern University.
My book, "Power Tools for Men: A Blueprint for Healthy Masculinity," co-authored with Rick Broniec deals with men's issues, and my book, "Fighting for Love: Turn Conflict into Intimacy - A Couple's Guide," co-authored with a mediation attorney Mari Frank, focuses on relationships. "The Roadmap Home: Your GPS to Inner Peace" blends practical psychology and heart-opening techniques for healing.
How Psychotherapy Can Help
I provide a safe environment for you to receive emotional and mental support. In the process, you gain insight into why you act, feel, and think the way you do. Most of our behaviors develop as survival skills. Once you realize that you don't have to rely on old skills, you can change the behaviors that no longer work, develop new skill sets, and bring more joy and success to life.
My Therapy Focus
With couples, I help them improve communication skills, reduce conflict, and increase intimacy. With individuals, I help them reduce anxiety and depression, improve coping skills, and transform their life stories to embrace acceptance and love. When I work with men, I help them reduce stress and develop healthy relationships with their emotions and their loved ones.
