My Approach to Helping
I approach this work as a sacred, transformational journey of helping you embody your medicine, the unique presence and purpose you bring to the world. Your medicine offers the power to heal, nurture well-being, and embrace courageous wholeness. Dancing with all that obscures and blocks your true heart and spirit is a beautiful, challenging adventure of tapping into deep compassion, fierce love, and radical acceptance of yours and others authentic selves. A journey I invite you to take and am honored to support.
I bridge the worlds of shamanic healing, contemporary psychotherapy, and life coaching. The blending of these modalities engages the invisible energies, the non-ordinary realities (however we each individually perceive these forces), and the physical world experiences and choices influencing our wellbeing.
For more than 3 decades I have supported mine and others' journeys of healing, personal mastery, and authenticity through shamanic practice with deep integrity, compassion, fortitude, and intuition.
More Info About My Practice
Shamanism is a spiritual path and practice for life. Foundational to this is the belief in the interconnected, oneness of all things and an active, conscious relationship with unseen energies and spirits existing in non-ordinary realities. Shamanic healing brings people into wholeness and alignment with themselves through work with helping spirits. Shifting the energies in non-ordinary reality support the individual's work in ordinary reality to transform themselves, their lives and relationships.
Despite the intense loneliness many feel when struggling, we all know or seek guides whose wisdom reflects the learning and support we need. Powerful internalized messages of being helpless, unloved, or insignificant cut us off from knowing our own power and from recognizing, much less accessing, the many forms of support at hand. As a shamanic healer and therapist, I am one of these guides and help to re-establish your own access to the fierce love and guidance available within and without.
I have a fee for service practice. My standard fee is $120 for a 60 minute session. I accept cash, check, and credit card as payment. I take payment at the time of service.
If you have insurance and wish to utilize your out-of-network benefits for counseling services, you are responsible for paying me up front. Once a month, I provide the necessary paperwork for you to apply for reimbursement from your insurance company. It is a good idea to confirm your out-of-network benefits first.
What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist
I feel honored to be of service to others healing, well-being, empowerment, and authenticity. As a shamanic healer and therapist, I am continually amazed and inspired by the courage, commitment, and willingness of my clients. I am deeply honored by their trust in allowing me to be a part of the beautiful and often difficult journey of their healing and growth. Engaging in the Medicine Dance, the conscious, dedicated process of change, with my clients, is a constant teaching and rewarding process for me. One which is empowering and humbling.
How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist
In trying to fit myself to my family's and culture's expectations, I learned that being what others seem to want you to be, rather than following the call of the self, does not create true connection. Trying to fit rigidly into the boxes defined for me or that I defined for myself in order to be accepted was stagnating and debilitating. Due to impact from trauma, I have had to allow myself to die and be re-born to my authentic presence in the world, rising like the phoenix from the ashes of an old construction of self. I know the liminal place, the ephemeral nature of self that can be a slow imperceptible progression or an instantaneous alteration. I recognize the siren song of the known that does not serve, and the trepidation of stepping into the void of the unknown. I know that being resilient is not about always being ok no matter what happens. It includes falling apart sometimes and picking yourself back up again and each time the opportunity exists to become stronger and more supple. I know the gifts and humor that live in the shadow and the dangers and grief that live in the light. Embracing my humanness, I do not shy away from powerful emotions or the dark places we tend to fear. I love the diversity and unique expression of humanity. All of this is medicine I bring to the therapeutic relationship with my clients.
