My Approach to Helping
Seeking a therapist is probably not what you felt like doing when you woke up this morning. And yet, who wants to feel stuck, overwhelmed, confused or in some form of "pain" for longer than is necessary? Fortunately, it is most definitely possible to partner with a respectful and competent therapist to sort out and work through difficult situations or complex problems. It is okay if you do not know exactly where to start. The therapy process can be structured in such a way that you get a chance to review all the areas of your life that may be affecting your situation, while we develop a mutually agreed upon plan for addressing your concerns. All throughout, you get to decide which processes - and what pace - works best for you. I have been a counselor for over 33 years now and have worked in a variety of settings. I find it most effective to integrate different strategies in a way that "fits" with your personal style and unique needs. These approaches include working with thoughts, feelings, physical body sensations, actions, and the connections between these areas. We can work very "practically" or we can blend in creative expressive techniques as well. Whatever is most comfortable or useful to you!
