My Approach to Helping
Life can leave you feeling alone trying to work through overwhelming challenges and hardships. My hope is to walk along with you so you don't have to figure everything out on your own. Let me partner with you in your journey to find hope, healing, and transformation for you within the therapeutic relationship and shared values. Life isn't always what we expected it to be and often times situations occur that are outside of our control. My desire is to help you in your journey to move through the hurts of your past and into the light of your future.
I received my Master of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Friends University in 2013, graduating with honors. I attained my undergraduate degree in Business and Psychology from Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, NE in 2003. I have experience and a heart for working with adolescents and women in matters that are unique to various life-stage stressors and attachment issues. I utilize various approaches including emotion focused therapy (EFT), cognitive behavioral therapy, and strengths-based approach to understand the heart of the emotional struggles within relationships and focus on each individual’s strengths. I am also trained in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) to help individuals address past trauma, reduce anxiety and depression, find healing from childhood neglect and abuse as well as alleviate stress associated with traumatic memories and posttraumatic stress (PTSD).
Creating a safe, warm, and non-judgmental environment where you can feel free to be yourself is essential to my therapy approach. I believe that struggles and conflict are a part of each individual’s experience and no one should ever have to feel they must navigate that journey alone. I am a Christian and strongly believe in the healing that can take place when God is at the center of the process. I believe in being an advocate for my clients and desire to walk beside them in their journey as they work to reach their desired goals and experience growth, change, and healing.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time outside, walking, reading, watching sporting events (particularly college football and basketball), traveling, and spending quality time with my family and friends. I have three children and have been married to my husband for over 14 years.
