My Approach to Helping
I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in Texas who is excited to work with adolescents, adults, and families struggling with the daily stressors of work, school, and life. I am also a certified anger management treatment professional (CAMTP) who works with clients aged 8 to 99 years. I want to bridge the gap between understanding the individual as the person and not the definition of their diagnosis. I am open to working with all cultures and want to help those who want to find a balance, reconnection with themselves, connect with others, discover their purpose and passion and live it to their fullest extent, advocate for themselves, and value their voices, beliefs, faith, and self-worth.
During my journey to becoming a licensed clinician, I worked with individuals within low-income neighborhoods and minority groups, where most of my experience is working with adolescents and young adults dealing with major depression, eating conditions, bipolar, and the autism spectrum. I have worked with youth with a history of abuse and neglect and have built rapport through the criminal justice system of Harris County in Texas. As an adjunct instructor for four years teaching sociology, I understand that societal changes among groups locally and globally influence individuals’ behaviors and perspectives. I have worked with individuals struggling with mood issues, anxiety, posttraumatic stress (PTSD), behavioral issues, and attachment for the past four years in a treatment center.
My emphasis in therapy and counseling is influenced by cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing (MI), and in the process of acquiring eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) certification, but I am ready to learn and apply techniques that would best assist the clients that would develop their self-awareness and build their sense of self.
I want to build a relationship to facilitate collaboration in achieving the client’s short-term and long-term therapeutic goals and find hope and healing within the self to be above the stigma of your diagnoses. My counseling style includes active involvement in your process. I will assist you in exploring your options and solutions while sharing feedback and observations, learning and understanding how various psychological factors affect individuals, and providing you with the best and most effective treatment.
I enjoy learning about other cultures and their languages, traveling, reading, shopping, music, experiencing new opportunities, and building relationships. I am excited to start this journey that may feel uncomfortable and scary but am here to support and advocate in times of hardships and assist you in finding hope and light where you may not find it. I am interested in meeting with you when you are ready.
