My Approach to Helping
My name is Lois DeLong, Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, LPC Licensure through Colorado, DORA. I have been working in the field of Behavioral Health since before the integration of Mental Health and Addictions, approximately 45 years. I utilize many of the Best Practices from the BH field as well as Traditional/natural teachings and personal recovery experiences in working with my clients. I am a 72 year old woman of the Anishinaabe Nation (Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa), on my Recovery journey from trauma and addictions for the past 46 years. Thank you Creator.
I assess where each individual is at present, matching the pace of movement as evenly as possible with their level of comfort and willingness. I try to not push, yet continue to challenge and encourage forward movement with any activity or approach being utilized. I do some personal sharing when I know they will benefit from the information, often giving "permission" to the client to own and share a secret that had been fueling fear, shame, guilt, and anger. My "Therapeutic Alliance" ratings have consistently been reported as 3/3 by 95 % of my clients.
